7 & 8 April 2012, 10am — 5pm.
An amazing opportunity is ahead for art lovers and explorers. Easter weekend 2012, more than 20 artists around the Whangarei Heads are opening up their reclusive lifestyles to invite you into their environment and their studios.
This is the first art trail for the Discover Whangarei Heads Tourism Group. It will encourage visitors to explore side roads, waterfront, bush and beach enclaves to find the talent living there. Painters, potters, jewellers, printmakers, bead workers, weavers and sculptors are dotted throughout the area and this is your chance to visit them at their workplace.
The trail is open for two days only (April 7th and 8th) from 10am to 5pm. Maps will be available on the Discover Whangarei Heads website and also at local cafes, the tavern and art outlets. Admission to all the listed studios is free.
The trail will start just beyond Onerahi, and extends out to Parua Bay, Owhiwa, McLeods Bay, Taurikura, and Urqhuarts Bay. While out there visit the stunning Ocean Beach or stretch your legs with a ten minute walk to Smugglers Cove. White sand blue seas. The dramatic rocky back drop of the Heads and Mount Manaia. No wonder the local artists are so inspired.
There are cafes and the Parua Bay tavern to keep you fuelled and refreshed to continue the adventure.
